Bethany had everything you could ask for. A condo that was (almost) paid off, a well paying job, and most importantly, a family. It all changed in a heart beat and she had to watch as her whole world crumbled around her and soon she found herself alone in a city of flesh-eating zombies.
Despite the overwhelming odds against her, Beth has managed to do what very few people have been able to do in this post-apocalyptic nation.
She has survived.
However, after coming across a young man with an unexpected trait, she finds herself torn between staying in the comfort and safety of her current routine or risking it all for the greater good of humanity.
As expected, there will be blood, guts, bodies and other unsightly dead things, you have been warned!
It's like having a near death experience makes you appreciate some things a little better.
This marks the end of Chapter 6!
I will be taking time off to prep for the Calgary Comic Expo (come see me, BMO Center, table R 06). I do have comic books coming in right away (They're in Portland right now!!) but I still have some work to do.
I will resume updates on April 24th. I know it's a long ways off, but it will be worth the wait! Beth..er..Micaela and Magnus have some exploring to do and a lot more trouble to get into!
I love the character insight we get into Micaela here. The fallout is going to be bad later when she realizes Magnus has been hiding his affliction from her. She's decided to trust him, and I sense that any break in that trust will not be well-received. I wonder if she's going to figure out what the wormbie wanted when it broke the fence?
I like how Beth's belief in God is referenced more than once, and I found her reaction to the moth revelation to be rather realistic. I'm not certain exactly what religion, if any, she hails from, but it's nice to see a character that believes in God even after the end.
Magnus looks so young on this page- it's amazing what a genuine smile does to both of them. it's interesting how a fear of being alone seems to be a constant motif with Magnus, and it's certainly related to his decision to lie to Micaela. Have fun at comic con, may it be fun and profitable
@Shieldmaiden: Micaela definitely won't take it well if she finds out she's been lied to, I'll tell ya! Ha ha!
I'm glad it's believable, I haven't ever written a character who's strong in faith before (Micaela's Catholic), so it's been a fun challenge for myself.
A little not!spoilery to the plot tidbit, Magnus is Lutheran, but he's the sort of guy that goes to church every Sunday but then goes off and gets tattooed, and drinks the moment he can get away with it.
I'm really looking forward to the comic expo this year, especially now that the books are in my hands! It should be a blast! Thank you for all your wonderful comments, you really made my day!
